The Middle East Society for Organ Transplantation (MESOT), a medical society dedicated to the development and advancement of transplantation activities in the Middle East, was initially founded in Turkey under the leadership of Prof. Mehmet Haberal in 1987, in compliance with Turkish Civil Code regulations. The Society was subsequently incorporated and registered with the Bern, Switzerland Chamber of Commerce in June 1988 as a nonprofit international scientific Society. MESOT has held 17 International Congresses to date, with the latest one being the 17th Congress, which was organized as a hybrid meeting in Amman, Jordan in September 2021.
The main goals of MESOT is to promote and encourage education, research and cooperation in the field of organ transplantation between medical centers nationally and within the region for the purpose of advancing the art and science of transplantation; to serve patients through the application of new knowledge and advances in the transplantation of organs for the treatment of human disease; and to create a scientific forum for discussion of all problems related to the field.
Since its inception more than 30 years ago, MESOT has collaborated closely with other national and community-based institutions that share similar visions for transplantation. The society has made major strides working with government authorities and the mass media to raise public awareness about the benefits of transplantation. In addition, its members have organized numerous campaigns and conferences to promote organ donation.
MESOT is affiliated with The Transplantation Society and has been a major advocate and supporter of the Istanbul Declaration and is one of the first national and regional societies to have endorsed it. In addition, Experimental and Clinical Transplantation, the official journal of MESOT, published the Istanbul Declaration on Organ Trafficking and Transplant Tourism in 2008.
The 18th Meeting of the Middle East Society for Organ Transplantation that will take place on May 24-26, 2023 in Ankara, Turkey. The meeting will be endorsed by The Transplantation Society (TTS), the Turkish Transplantation Society (TOND), and the Turkic World Transplantation Society (TDTD). Our team is keenly aware of the importance of the 2023 MESOT Congress, and is fully dedicated to making this event a success on all fronts.
MESOT is extremely pleased to host the 2024 International Congress of The Transplantation Society in Istanbul. In addition to being the first TTS congress to be held in the Middle East and Africa Region, it will be a tremendous opportunity to connect with friends and colleagues, and to absorb new insights and information. With Istanbul as a backdrop, this congress would certainly be extraordinary and unforgettable, offering participants the chance to combine an excellent scientific meeting with a culturally and historically rich social program in one of the most splendid cities in the world.
